Find the right craftsmen for a renovation or a new building. You don't always have the ease of facilitating this process.

We will put you in touch with qualified companies in your regions, the process is very simple by filling out the quote request form as accurately as possible.

Upon receipt of the form we will analyze and send you at least 3 qualified companies according to your needs.

Our method to make the best choice.

We offer qualified companies that will respond according to your requests and needs.

Below are some points that they need to be checked :

  • Upon receipt of the form, we will review and send at least 3 eligible companies based on your needs.
  • What do the majority of people do when they receive a quote for work?
  • They look directly down right to find out the price.
    Maybe you do that too.

However this is not the first thing to look at.

In fact, price should only be the last element of decision-making.

There are many other points to analyze to choose a quote, and therefore the craftsman or company that will carry out the work at your home.

What is the point of a low price if the service is not up to your expectations? If the work is weeks late? If a disaster occurs and you discover that the company is not insured?

We present in this article the method that is used to sort, and choose the best quotes for my projects.

Don't focus on price first

The problem when we look at the price first is that we bias our judgment from the start.

We all have emotional reactions with money, it’s normal, it’s human.

But the price can bias our choice and lead us to a bad decision.

Sales and promotional operations are popular. Is it the “right” price that is offered? Not sure, but the fear of missing out pushes us to accept this price and buy the product.

When we see a price on a quote, we can have several “immediate” reactions depending on the value we expected for the service concerned:

• The price is very high => “it’s anything, the company exaggerates, or it takes advantage of the fact that we are in a hurry”
• The price is very low => “it’s weird anyway, there must be a mistake, or worse it’s a scam”
• The price is a bit high => “interesting, a little beyond our means but the work must be of quality. Let’s think about whether it’s worth the extra effort.
• The price is a bit low => “Good news! Let’s take a closer look if the services offered are in line with our request”
• The price is what you expected=> “ok, let’s see if we don’t find cheaper elsewhere anyway”

In fact, we have the right reaction only when the price is “a little low”. Prudence pushes us to reason and study the situation closely.

But this action is based on a subjective value (the price we have determined beforehand), and which is not necessarily fair.

So before making your decision, let’s see the crucial points that you have to look at on a quote for work.

Demand a detailed quote

Let's start there. Before choosing the quote for your work, see if it accurately describes the upcoming work.

A number of essential information must be provided.
We cannot stop at a succinct description of the style: “installation of new double glazed joinery” or "attic insulation with cellulose wadding".

Here's what you need to have on the quote:
The brand of the product (e.g. Biofib insulation, Thermorossi pellet stove, Keim paint, K-Line or Technal window...)
Performance or yield (for insulation or window the level of insulation in m². K/W, for a boiler energy efficiency in %, etc ...)
The main material (aluminum or wood window)
Color (RAL* 7035)
The quantity and / or dimensions, with the units (45 m² of insulation 16cm thick, 1 sliding bay of 4000mm* 2350mm, 250 m² of wall to paint, etc ...)
The address of the site and the dates of intervention (see the next paragraph)

*RAL is the name of the reference color chart used in the building. It is used to define the color of paints and lacquers of building materials. You will easily find it on the internet. You can also ask your painter for a catalog, they often have some for free by paint manufacturers.

Make it easier for you to follow up on work:

All this information is mandatory to properly frame the service that will be performed. The quote then serves as a follow-up document during the work to verify that what is done corresponds to what has been ordered.

If the quote is unclear or incomplete, it will be difficult to justify to the craftsman that you thought you had chosen with him another product or material, even if you are in good faith. Same thing in case of dispute.

It also happens that the company changes material along the way, for reasons of simplicity of supply (or sometimes to save money). In this case, it is normal to request a readjustment of the quote on the basis of the new product (if you accept it of course). This can be the case for elements "that cannot be seen", such as insulation, certain parts of taps, or the brand of the paint.

Finally, when the quantities are indicated on the quote, you can easily control during the construction site the quantity actually implemented (although it still varies a little from the initial estimate because some things are not visible before the start of the work). You then verify that the amount matches on the invoice. It can be up or down of course, but at least it's clear and precise.
